I love making my own seasoning mixes and spices at home. The last thing I want to do is run out to the store just to get one spice mix for a recipe. I combined a bunch of herbs and spices I already had on hand to make this delicious homemade Creole seasoning. A dash or two of this yummy spice blend upgrades any dish!
What’s in This Creole Seasoning Recipe?
Paprika: Both smoked paprika and sweet paprika add a smoky and peppery flavor to the blend. Oregano: Dried oregano adds a pungent peppery flavor to the mix. Garlic Powder: Enhances the savory flavor of the blend. Onion Powder: Adds a touch of sweet and savory flavor to the blend. Dried Thyme: Adds a peppery, sweet, and lemony flavor to the mix. Dried Basil: Adds a minty and sweet flavor to the mix. Salt + Pepper: Enhance the natural flavor of the spice mix. I also added flake sea salt for a bit of crunch. Cayenne Pepper: Makes the blend spicy. Crushed Red Pepper Flakes: Enhances the spicy flavor of the blend.
How to Store
Store leftover Creole seasoning in an airtight container in a cool, dry place for up to 2 months. While it will keep for much longer, it will begin to lose its freshness and intensity over time.
Serving Suggestions
Creole seasoning is a versatile spice mix. My favorite recipe to use it in is classic shrimp Creole, but it also makes a great seasoning for grilled salmon or fried chicken, too!
