And thanks to my air fryer, I can make these wings quickly and with less oil than deep-frying! These air fryer buffalo chicken wings are as easy as they’re delicious – this recipe is always a hit at my game-day parties!

What’s in This Air Fryer Honey Buffalo Chicken Wings Recipe?

Who said wings have to be complicated? Not me, that’s for sure! This recipe has less than 7 ingredients, and you probably already have most of them in your pantry.

Chicken: Use chicken wing portions or whole wings. Both work great! Flour: Helps the wings crisp in the air fryer. For extra crispy wings, mix the flour with 1 tablespoon of cornstarch.  Seasonings: Garlic powder and kosher salt add flavor.  Hot Sauce: Use any brand you like – keep in mind that you’re using a lot of it, so you don’t want it to be too spicy. I love using Frank’s Red Hot for these chicken wings.  Honey: Sweetens the sauce.  Butter: Helps the sauce melt and adds richness.

How to Store and Reheat

The longer these air fryer chicken wings sit in the honey buffalo sauce, the less crispy they’ll be. I don’t recommend storing leftovers as they’ll lose their crispiness in the fridge. Make these wings fresh and enjoy them while they’re hot!

Notes and Tips

Always cook the chicken wings in a single layer in the air fryer for even cooking and crispy results. Don’t forget to flip the wings halfway through cooking for even browning. Prepare the sauce as the wings cook so you can toss them in it while they’re still hot for maximum flavor. If you don’t have an air fryer, you can bake these wings in the oven at 400°F for 30 minutes, flipping halfway through. After 30 minutes, brush the honey Buffalo sauce onto the wings and bake again for 10 minutes. Then, flip and brush the other sides, and bake again until crispy (or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F).

How to Make Air Fryer Honey Buffalo Chicken Wings Step by Step

Coat the Chicken Wings: In a large bowl, combine 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt. Add 1 pound of chicken wing portions and toss to coat evenly. Prepare the Air Fryer: Brush the air fryer basket with olive oil or spray it with olive oil cooking spray. Place the chicken wings into the basket in a single layer – any overlapping will stop the wings from getting as crispy. Cook the Chicken Wings: Spray the chicken wings with olive oil. Set your air fryer to 400°F and cook for 8 minutes. Flip the Chicken Wings: Turn the chicken wings over and cook for 8 more minutes. After the time is up, set the wings to one side while you make the sauce. Make the Sauce: Mix 1/2 cup hot sauce, 1/4 cup honey, and 2 tablespoons unsalted butter in a small, microwave-safe bowl. Heat the Sauce: Put the bowl into the microwave and heat for 1 minute. Mix thoroughly so that the butter is completely melted into the hot sauce and honey mixture. Microwave for 30 more seconds if the butter isn’t completely melted. Serve and Enjoy: Put the chicken wings into a bowl and pour over the honey buffalo sauce. Toss to evenly coat and serve!
